Palm Wine on Awesome Tapes from Africa

Tigrean People's Liberation Front Tigray 90, Tigrean Revolutionary Songs

This rare cassette from Tigray, Eritrea, which is part of a long series from the Tigrean People's Liberation Front, was "found in Muna's grandma's closet." I received it from Palm Wine, Italy, who asked that I note it's origin. Although the sound quality is not great—even by this site's meager standards—the tape is musically and historically fascinating so I thought I'd share.

See the post and download the tape here.

Welcome to Palm Wine's blog

Palm Wine is a project I started at the end of 2009, and I've described it as 'a possible and distant look at the post-global movement of sounds and imageries, even dazed by alcohol vapours. For this reason, it can take unexpected routes backward and forward, travels in the outer space and depicts a magic conception of distance between past, present and the next world.'

I'm working on a photographic publication as a first concrete output of the project, in the meantime I've decided to start this blog to note things to ponder and parts of research in any form: theoretical, visual or musical. Also I'll use this space as an archive of PW activities and signals over the net and on other medias.

cheers,
Simone Bertuzzi
